Total Bed Count: 12 #Bed Types and How Divided: 6 ICU, 6 SDU Staffing Ratios: 1:2 (When in SDU, 1:3)
Schedule Requirements: Call Required: If the shift begins overstaffed, nurses may be put on call for a shift
Float Required: All nurses float to SDU regularly.
Floating to med surg or ED may be necessary if ICU/SDU census is low.
Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend.
Special Procedures: Moderate sedation
Scrubs: Any Solid Color Adventist Health Sonora has a 6 bed ICU and a 6 bed stepdown unit, with staff shared between the units.
The ratio is 1:2 in ICU, and 1:3 in SDU.
Occasionally patient acuity may require 1:1 care in the ICU.
We do not do cardiovascular surgery, neuro surgery, or Trauma at our hospital, but we may admit any other type of ICU patient.
Typical patients include respiratory failure, DKA, post cardiac Cath STEMI patients, Sepsis patients, alcohol withdrawal, etc.
On the SDU unit, we admit patients on diltiazem and amiodarone drips for Afib RVR, have patients on BIPAP, and a variety of other patient types.
Nurses should be able to manage titratable IV drips, including vasopressors, propofol, fentanyl, etc.
ICU shifts are from 0700 to 1930, or 1900 to 1930.
