Your responsibilities include operating and maintaining specialized respiratory therapy equipment, conducting thorough patient assessments, and collaborating with physicians, nurses, and other therapists to develop and implement individualized care plans. You will also educate patients and families on respiratory treatments and care plans, ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout your assignment.
Typical assignments may range from 6 to 13 weeks, with shifts varying between days and nights depending on the contract. You may be expected to work 8 to 12-hour shifts, and patient ratios will depend on the specific setting and acuity level. Experience requirements often include at least one to two years of professional respiratory therapy experience, current licensure as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, and certifications such as Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), or similar credentials. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and compassion are essential for success in this role. Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems and outpatient care protocols may be required for some positions.
