Physical Therapist - Outpatient - (PT)
StartDate: ASAP
Available Shifts: 8 D
Pay Rate: $2267.00 - $2336.00
This 13-week outpatient Physical Therapist assignment is based in Banner Elk, North Carolina, a picturesque mountain community in the state’s High Country region. Surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains, Banner Elk offers a unique blend of small-town warmth and resort-town energy, making it an ideal setting for clinicians who enjoy both peaceful surroundings and easy access to year-round recreation.
Banner Elk is known for its four-season appeal. In the winter, nearby Beech Mountain and Sugar Mountain offer skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing just a short drive away. During spring, summer, and fall, the area transforms into a haven for hiking, mountain biking, and scenic drives along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Grandfather Mountain, with its iconic mile-high swinging bridge and extensive trail system, is close by and provides stunning views and endless opportunities for outdoor exploration. The town itself features locally owned restaurants, coffee shops, and arts venues, creating a welcoming, community-oriented atmosphere where it is easy to feel at home during your assignment.
The outpatient facility offers a modern, patient-centered environment designed to support high-quality, evidence-based care. You will join a collaborative rehabilitation team dedicated to helping patients return to the activities they love, from everyday tasks to high-level sports and outdoor pursuits. The culture emphasizes professional respect, open communication, and a shared commitment to patient outcomes. This setting is well-suited for Physical Therapists who value autonomy in clinical decision-making while also benefiting from collegial support and mentorship.
As an Outpatient Physical Therapist, you will manage a primarily orthopedic caseload, with patients typically presenting with musculoskeletal conditions, post-operative needs, sports injuries, and functional mobility limitations. A typical day includes initial evaluations, development of individualized treatment plans, progression of therapeutic exercise programs, manual therapy interventions, patient education, and discharge planning. You will be responsible for timely and accurate documentation in an electronic medical record, clear communication with referring providers, and ongoing reassessment of patient progress.
The schedule consists of five 8-hour day shifts per week, for an expected 40 hours. The role does not include on-call responsibilities, allowing for predictable workdays and ample time to enjoy the surrounding mountain region. Patient volumes are structured to promote quality of care, and therapists are supported by administrative and clinical staff who help streamline scheduling and daily workflow.
This assignment can be an excellent addition to your professional experience, offering exposure to an active, engaged patient population in a region that values healthy, outdoor living. The High Country setting is particularly appealing if you enjoy skiing, hiking, photography, or simply relaxing in a scenic mountain town. You will have the opportunity to refine your outpatient skills, build your resume with diverse cases, and immerse yourself in a community that blends small-town charm with the amenities of a popular mountain destination.
