Travel Direct Observation Unit Registered Nurse job duties

While job duties may vary depending on the facility you work with, here are some common Travel DOU RN responsibilities:

  • Monitor and assess patients' vital signs and overall condition to detect changes and ensure timely intervention.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and intravenous fluids as prescribed by physicians.
  • Provide continuous observation and care to patients who require short-term monitoring for acute conditions or post-procedure recovery.
  • Document patients' medical histories, assessments, treatments, and progress accurately and promptly in electronic health records.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and implement individualized care plans for each patient.
  • Educate patients and their families on their medical conditions, treatment plans, and post-discharge care instructions.
  • Assist with diagnostic tests and procedures, ensuring patients' comfort and safety throughout the process.
  • Respond to emergency situations by providing advanced life support and other critical interventions as necessary.
  • Coordinate patient transfers to other units or facilities as required, ensuring seamless continuity of care.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and organized environment by adhering to infection control protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families during their stay in the Direct Observation Unit.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and continuing education to stay current with advancements in nursing practices and patient care.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, policies, and ethical standards in all aspects of patient care.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all nursing interventions, patient responses, and any changes in condition.
