Unit: The Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) cares for a highly specialized patient population, including:
Trauma cases
Cardiovascular surgery patients (e.g., TAVR, CABG directly from the OR)
Neurosurgery patients
Other complex surgical cases
Required Skills & Clinical Experience:
Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
Arterial line management
Blood product administration
Management of critical conditions including:
Acute ventilator dependency
COVID+ patients with high oxygen demand
DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis)
Severe sepsis
Unstable GI bleeds
Post-code blue recovery
Open heart and TAVR recovery
Trauma with multi-system organ failure
CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy)
Active Virginia (VA) or compact RN license
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Minimum 2 years of SICU experience
