This Speech-Language Pathologist position offers the opportunity to work in a skilled nursing and rehabilitation environment in West Lafayette, Indiana, a vibrant and welcoming community that blends the energy of a major university with the comfort of Midwestern living. West Lafayette is home to Purdue University, giving the area a lively college-town feel with access to cultural events, lectures, sporting events, and a wide range of dining and entertainment options. Residents enjoy a mix of charming neighborhoods, scenic trails, and local parks, as well as easy access to both Lafayette and the surrounding region. The area features numerous attractions and activities that make it an enjoyable place to live and work. You can explore riverfront walks along the Wabash, visit local museums and galleries, or take advantage of seasonal festivals and community events throughout the year. Dining ranges from casual cafes to diverse international cuisine, and nearby Lafayette offers additional shopping, entertainment venues, and family-friendly destinations. The presence of Purdue University brings a steady stream of cultural performances, research collaborations, and educational opportunities, contributing to a dynamic and intellectually rich environment. Within the facility, you will be part of a rehabilitation-focused team that provides skilled nursing care and comprehensive therapy services to adults and older adults recovering from illness, injury, or surgery, as well as residents requiring long-term support. The setting emphasizes coordinated, quality care, with speech therapy integrated into an interdisciplinary model that includes physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, social services, and medical providers. You can expect to work with a caseload that may include patients with stroke, neurologic conditions, cardiopulmonary issues, complex medical needs, and progressive cognitive or communication disorders. Your typical day may involve conducting speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing evaluations; developing individualized plans of care; providing direct treatment sessions; and documenting progress in the electronic medical record in alignment with regulatory and professional standards. You will collaborate closely with the team on care conferences, discharge planning, and ongoing communication about patient goals and progress. Treatment may occur in dedicated therapy spaces, resident rooms, or other appropriate areas of the facility, depending on patient needs and functional goals. You may work with a range of patients from short-stay post-acute rehab admissions to long-term residents, with caseload volume and patient ratios aligned to the skilled nursing environment and productivity expectations typical of rehab settings. Schedules generally include daytime hours with the potential for some flexibility depending on facility needs, with an emphasis on consistent, high-quality patient care and professional collaboration. The environment is designed to support both independent clinical practice and teamwork, giving you the opportunity to refine your skills, explore areas of specialization such as dysphagia or cognitive rehabilitation, and contribute meaningfully to patient outcomes. This role is well suited for a Speech-Language Pathologist who values a supportive, collegial atmosphere, enjoys working with adult and geriatric populations, and is looking for a setting where they can grow clinically while making a tangible difference in the lives of patients and residents. The combination of a rehab-centered facility and the engaging, resource-rich community of West Lafayette creates a compelling opportunity for both professional development and quality of life.
